So You Have Decided To Buy A Conway Stewart Fountain Pen

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Arthur Mavericck asked:

It’s been a long time since you initially used the cheapest pen while learning to write at school and now what to buy a better writing instrument. From what you have heard and read you have decided on the Conway Stewart Fountain Pen. But then there are so many models in Conway Stewart Fountain Pens, Which one do you choose for yourself?

To begin with you have to decide what it is you will be using the Conway Stewart Fountain Pen for. Will it be for daily use like for taking down notes in college, for artistic writing like calligraphy or just a wee bit of writing every day? Accordingly, or may need to select from the calligraphy pens or the broad nib or fine nib pens from the collection of Conway Stewart Fountain Pens.

The next thing you should look at is your budget. You can get fountain pens for as cheap as $5 and you will even get a Conway Stewart Fountain Pen in the range of $400 and more. A more expensive pen does not mean that it is better to write with. A $50 pen may write as well as the $400 Conway Stewart Fountain Pens but the more expensive pens will be made from better materials like precious metals such as silver, gold and platinum.

The nub of the Conway Stewart Fountain Pen that you choose should suit your usage. Conway Stewart Fountain Pens have nibs coming in varying thicknesses ranging from the very fine nibs to the pretty thick nibs. A flexible nib gives you a lot of advantages like being able to get different effects from it. You just have to press lightly for writing that is thinner and press a little harder for thicker writing. But if it is only fine writing that you are after, then a hard and thin nib should suit your requirements.

The aesthetics of the Conway Stewart Fountain Pen too are extremely importance. Time and again we make selections based on the appearance rather than how practical an item is so if we find one of the Conway Stewart Fountain Pens that lies somewhere in the middle of the scale where both these aspects are concerned, we should be happy. What is of utmost importance it that whatever fountain pen you choose you should be comfortable using or else it will get left behind in your drawer along with the rest of your unused fountain pens.

It is not recommended that you buy one of the expensive Conway Stewart Fountain Pens with gold or platinum for your school or college-going kids. It will be not only a distraction but an object of envy and it might even get stolen or borrowed and never returned. It is alright if they use it at home but a Conway Stewart Fountain Pen in the lower price range should do for taking down notes daily at college.

China Tours – Shopping in Xian

Thursday, March 26th, 2009
huiya asked:

Xian is one of the most important cities in China history and nowadays. As one of China seven ancient national capitals, Xian served as the capital for 12 dynasties spanning more than 1,000 years. Therefore, it has a great number of the items unique to Xian that cannot be found elsewhere in the world.

There are many street markets around the city to sell local arts and crafts. The famous street markets are Parkson shopping mall, the Bell Tower shopping street, the Drum Tower night market and the Academy Gate culture street. The luxurious shopping areas in the city are centered mainly along Dong Dajie, Nan Dajie and Jiefang Lu. Department stores usually open at about 9 am and close at 10 pm.

The replicas of Terracotta Warriors and Horses, calligraphy rubbings, farmer paintings, paper cuts and jade craft works are the most popular buys in Xian. If you missed those things on your Xian tour, you cannot easily found them in other cities in China.

The replicas of Terracotta Warriors and Horses:

The terracotta warriors and horses is one of the most remarkable archaeological discoveries of all times ever since its excavation in 1974. Many visitors come to Xian would like to take a Terracotta Warrior as souvenir. You can find different types of replicas, from a few inches tall to life-size available in the markets. The replicas of Terracotta Warriors and Horses will give visitor’s home or garden a real ancient and oriental touch.

Calligraphy rubbings:

Calligraphy rubbings are convenient and meaningful mementoes for foreign tourists to remind them of their China tours. They are especially liked by Japanese visitors who share the same written character.

Xian has more than 300 stele dating from the Han, Wei, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties collected in the Forest of Stele. You can purchase calligraphy books that rubbed from the stone inscriptions in many shops. If you love Chinese calligraphy, a rubbing book could be a good souvenir.

Farmer paintings:

Farmer paintings from Huxian County outside Xian are very popular and unique. The works feature notable regional tones, marked by pictorial landscape and the rustic life. The Gallery of Farmers’ Paintings from Huxian County has more than 1000 paintings on displaying with an exhibition area of 1200 square meters. Visitors can appreciate the demonstration of the artist and appreciate the performance of folk artists. Xian is a good place for shopping farmer paintings.

Paper cuts:

Paper cut is one of the famous souvenirs in Xian. Paper cut, though named from paper, can also be caused by other thin, stiff materials, such as aluminum foil, thin blades of grass, or film negatives. There are three kinds of paper cuts: Figures in paper cut, customs in paper cut and animals in paper cut. All these paper cuts have bright color of red, green or light blue which provide a strong foil to set off a merry atmosphere. So the paper cuts often found in wedding ceremonies or festivals in China. Any visitor to Xian agrees that it is a pleasure to have paper cuts as souvenirs.

Jade craft works:

Xian jade carvings boast five thousand year history. Nowadays all kinds of nice-looking and exquisitely-carved jade craft works , such as jade bowls, jade bracelets, jade pendants, etc, are available in Xian. There are some important tips to choose the jade craft works: the brightness of color and luster, compactness of inner structure, and the delicacy of the craft work. For example, on real jade, air bubbles cannot be seen and so on.

Why you Need an Expert for your Chinese Symbol Tattoo

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009
Reese Lanter asked:

Chinese symbols are one of the most popular tattoo designs. You should consider consulting a Chinese linguist or a Chinese artist before deciding on a particular Chinese symbol tattoo, though.

Why You Want One

Before asking an expert about a particular symbol, ask yourself why you want it first. Of course, they obviously look cool but you need to be certain that it is what you want. You need to have the right reasons to be able to appreciate your tattoo.

- In most cases, a person with Chinese heritage may want a Chinese symbol tattoo because it links them to that part of them that is Chinese. A Chinese inspired tattoo is a way of connecting to your roots.

- The masterful calligraphy of a real Chinese characters is also another reason why people want to have such designs. Tattoos of Chinese characters actually look elegant, exotic, artistic and clean.

- Another reason is also the influence of the culture. Some people also want to have Chinese symbol tattoos simply because of the link of Chinese symbols to mythology, mystery and even martial arts pop culture. In a deeper level, Chinese characters have also been associated with ancient wisdom and values.

Why You Need an Expert

It is usually a good idea to get paid expert service to come up with a customized Chinese symbol tattoo that is just for you. Here are some valid reasons why you need an expert:

- The system of writing is complicated and usually very intricate. Although Chinese people usually need to master only about 3,000-5,000 characters, there are more than 70,000-80,000 Chinese characters in existence. There is a therefore a high chance that you could get the wrong symbol on your skin. Furthermore, the English language has a lot of words that are the same but may have different meanings and connotations. Translating multiple meaning words in Chinese could get tricky because there are many possible characters that could have different definitions for a single English word.

- Chinese calligraphy comes in many styles. You can choose a Chinese symbol tattoo in cursive, classic, old style and many more. This does not mean though that a tattoo artist is free to put his own flair on a Chinese symbol tattoo. Chinese calligraphy may have many styles but it is an exact art. Putting artistic flair could ruin a Chinese symbol tattoo or its meaning could change.

- It’s easy for you to apply a symbol incorrectly if you don’t know much about the symbol that’s why an expert is important. Because you and your tattoo artist are not familiar with Chinese, you could unintentionally put a symbol backward or upside down. You might also miss some strokes. This could change the meaning of your symbol or make it completely meaningless.

- You could ask friends, artists and online dictionaries to translate for you. Sometimes though, translations could be wrong. This is especially true if you have a friend who is not so well versed in the nuances of either the English or Chinese languages. An expert would be careful of double meanings.

Wedding Invitations: Carrying Out The Task Of Spreading The Word

Saturday, March 14th, 2009
Sarrah Beaumont asked:

Did you know that in ancient times, the task of informing guests regarding the details of an upcoming wedding is not done through wedding invitations? Yes, back when paper and stationery sets are not yet invented, spreading the word about tying-of-the-knot events were done using different means.

The Town Crier

When the printing press was not yet in existence, weddings are announced using a Town Crier. Typically, he is a gentleman with a loud voice and who roams around town to inform everyone about an upcoming wedding. Basically, everyone who has heard about such an announcement is invited to the wedding. In other words, one’s sense of hearing is a guest’s wedding invitation.

Calligraphy

Then during the medieval era, illiteracy was rampant. Because most people cannot read and write, the use of wedding invitations was only limited to the members of the nobility and to the affluent. Wedding invitations are done by using the services of monks and other people who are skilled in the art of calligraphy.

Because only the rich and affluent could afford the services of these skilled professionals, those in the lower and middle class had to make do of the town criers still.

Engraving

When engraving was invented in 1642, quality wedding invitations became accessible to the middle class. Engraving here means handwriting the text in reverse to any metallic object with the use of a carving tool. This engraved metal is then used to mass-print the wedding invitations.

Perhaps, this became the roots of mass wedding invitations that you see today.

“Double Envelopes”

When wedding invitations were to be hand delivered by a “horseman,” the possibility of damage is high. This gave rise to the idea of putting wedding invitations in two envelopes in order to protect these precious papers. Today, you can still see invitations placed in double envelopes because these are still to be sent to other parts of the world using a courier service provider. Of course, if you are the bride, you don’t want your guests receiving dilapidated and crumpled bits of paper.

The Modern Means

After the World War II, the use of “fine wedding stationery” came about. This then led to how you see wedding invitations today. This was also coupled with a number of different printing techniques including thermography, letterpress printing and laser printing. The third is promoted by many wedding experts because it is said to be the least expensive printing method.

You see, as with the other aspects in a wedding ceremony preparation, wedding invitations have also evolved. It has travelled from being a lowly auditory function to an elaborate written material that features different font types, styles, colors, sizes, and even scents.

You can see that even before, when the world still lacked a touch of modernity, the task of spreading the word about weddings was still carried out. You can see that people have used their creativity and ingenuity in making special announcements.

Today, however, you can still make use of that creativity – but not anymore in how the prehistoric people handled it. Creativity can be poured in your unique design of wedding invitations.

incredible north india, north india tours, north india tour package, golden triangle tour, india tou

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009
Sanjog asked:

The wonderful Mughal structure that enthralls visitors, artists, painters, sculptors, poets and photographers – one of the most visited medieval buildings of the world – the eternal monument that has almost become a symbol of India – welcome to the Taj Mahal !! One of the seven wonders of the world !! Built over a time period of 22 years by the fifth Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal is declared a world heritage monument. It took a workforce of about 20,000 laborers to design such a perfect monument which is characterized by highly stylized calligraphy, intricate carvings in marble, delicate arrangement of precious stones, and the famous pietra dura inlay work.

Other Prominent Attractions Famous as the ’symbol of love’, this timeless beauty boasts of being the most frequented attraction in the entire north Indian belt. It has simply made Agra a jewel in golden triangle tour. While on a Taj Mahal tour in India, one can also visit places like Agra fort (the center of Mughul power till the capital was shifted to Delhi), Fatehpur Sikri (the lavish fortified palace of Emperor Akbar), the massive Buland Darwaza, and the tomb of Sheikh Salim Chishti. Agra is a place famous for the best of Mughal architectures. Every aspect of life here is quite vibrant and colourful. Itmad-ud-daulat (the tomb of Nurjahan’s father), Chini ka Rauza (a tomb of one of Shahjahan’s ministers) and the tomb of Akbar at Sikandara are also counted among the city’s major attractions.

Most of these attractions showcase a great blend of Indian, Islamic and European architectural patterns. But the Taj is unbeatable in all the respects. It draws countless love struck couples from far and wide.
